If you're cruisin' east on Interstate 80, you'll catch a glimpse of him with the caption, 'This is the place. For westerly travelers, Wendover Will gives a warm 'Howdy' with 'Where the West begins. The locals often refer to him as merely 'the cowboy. The Guinness Book of Records recognized him as the 'World’s Largest Mechanical Cowboy. Created for the Stateline Casino, Wendover Will was named after the town of Wendover and William Smith, its founder.
The 63-foot-tall neon cowboy was there to lasso travelers in from US Highways 40 and 50, later known as Interstate 80. Wendover Will is a Registered Trademark of the City of West Wendover and was even included in the city’s seal when West Wendover was incorporated as a town in 1991.
