Karl IX statue: A 1926 centennial memorial in Karlstad that commemorates Duke

The bronze statue of Duke Karl IX stands in central Karlstad. Erected in 1926, the statue commemorates the Duke’s 1584 grant of city privileges to Karlstad. After the city’s decision to erect a statue of Karl IX in 1928, Christian Eriksson was tasked with creating the statue, with advice from Anders Zorn. However, the city faced financial constraints, which caused a delay in the commission until 1924. Renowned architect Ragnar Östberg was among those recommending a placement in front of the residence, where the finished statue was eventually placed.
