The Shrine of St. Pedro Regalado: A Life Redeemed

The Shrine of San Pedro Regalado, originally named monasterio Domus Dei, is a religious site situated in La Aguilera, Burgos Province, Spain. Established in 1404 by the fraticelli, Peter Regalado de Villacresces, a native of the region, led a life of excess and debauchery. At the age of 21, he joined the Order of St. Francis and was sent to La Aguilera to help establish a new monastery. In the remote Spanish countryside, he found redemption through tireless work, frugality, and dedication to prayer and penance. Peter Regalado de Villacresces died in 1422, but he was not officially canonized as a saint until 1746, by Pope Benedicto XIV. Today, visitors can still see the remains of Peter Regalado de Villacresces in the Gloria Chapel of the Shrine of San Pedro Regalado.
