In the heart of Burgos, Spain, stands a statue of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, better known as El Cid. Unveiled by General Franco on July 23, 1955, this statue is one of two monuments dedicated to El Cid in Burgos. Standing 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall, the statue is erected on a pedestal of granite and stone that rises 5 meters (16.4 feet) high. The pedestal displays inscriptions and the coats of arms of Burgos and Castilla.
