The Quirky Q Tower of Cotter, AR: A Watering Hole's Curious Water Tower

Tucked around about 30 miles northeast of Little Rock, Cotter, AR's unique water tower stands proud amidst the Arkansas Ozark foothills. But don't let that traditional whistle fool ya, mate - this tower's got more to it than simply keeping time.

The Cotter water tower, a humble landmark in the small town of Cotter, AR, is no ordinary water tower. Constructed way back in 1935 by the Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Company, this tower didn't get a leg up from the Public Works Administration’s water system improvements. Instead, it was the Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Company that took the reins and built the structure on its own. Flash forward to 2007, and this tower now finds itself among the VIPs on the National Register of Historic Places, sharing the spotlight with other grand projects under the 'An Ambition to Be Preferred: New Deal Recovery Efforts and Architecture in Arkansas, 1933-1943' listing.
