Jackson's Journey: A Confederate Stone Buddy's Century-Long Stroll, Ending

A stone chap, known as the Jackson Guards Memorial, moved no less than twice in a hundred years, now resting easy in Jacksonport State Park, marking a Confederate lot.

This walks-about stone pal, the Jackson Guards Memorial, stands as a tribute to a Confederate Army squad. Invested with some personal cash, this marble statue takes a seat on a granite pedestal, towering roughly 6 feet in the air, with the foundation measuring about 20 feet high and 10 feet wide. The inaugural unveiling took place in Newport back in 1914, but it switched locations here in Jacksonport State Park in 1965. A recent shuffle in 2017 moved it 300 feet to the east, making room for a fresh visitors center. In 1996, it was given the honor of being enlisted in the National Register of Historic Places.
