The old castle with a story

Located in Santa Coloma de Farners, the Castle of Farners stands on the Turó de Farners. The castle, a feud of the vescomtat of Cardona, was first documented in 1046. For two centuries, it was owned by the family Farners, until it passed to the Vilademany family in the 13th century.

In the 13th century, there were disputes over the sovereignty of the Castle of Farners between Pere el Gran and the vescomte Ramon Folc VI de Cardona. The castle was also occupied by remences in 1485 during the Guerra civil catalana.

The castle's trapezoidal ground plan covers a surface of 200 m², and it features a main west gate complete with an arc of lowered point and a reduct for protection. There is also a nearby small gate communicating with the Turó del Vent. A cistern is located between the Castle of Farners and the Turó del Vent. The castle underwent a restoration at the end of the 20th century to preserve its history.
