The Navarin Ossuary is a National Necropolis, a memorial to the soldiers who died in the Champagne Armies of World War I. It was inaugurated in 1924, and is dedicated to the French, American, Russian, Czech, and Polish divisions who fought in the Champagne region. Maxime Real del Sarte sculpted the central statue, representing an assault of two French soldiers and an American soldier. The monument's conception was part of a French memory movement in 1923, a response to the desire to commemorate the sacrifice of the soldiers who fought in the Champagne region. Nearly every village in France built a monument in honor of the fallen soldiers.
