The Couvent Saint-Dominique de Corbara, founded in 1456, is located in Corbara in Corsica. Over the centuries, the monastery has sheltered several religious communities, including Franciscans, Dominicans, and finally the Saint-Jean community. The monastery remained Franciscan until the French Revolution.
Historical records point to the religious figures Frère Mariano de Muro and Père Matteo d'Occhiatana as those at the origin of the construction. In 1855, the Dominican priest Hyacinthe Besson was commissioned to found a retreat in case of revolution. From 1857, it was occupied by Dominican friars, who added two extra wings and built a school and a college of philosophy and theology between 1857 and 1860.
Since 1993, the Saint-Jean community has resided in the monastery. The site has hosted notable figures such as Pascal Paoli, Guy de Maupassant, and Alain Peyrefitte. Recently, the monastery served as a filming location for the reality show Bienvenue au monastère in 2023. While the church, steeple, and monastery are owned by the commune of Corbara, the monastery is currently managed by the Saint-Jean brothers.
