The jewel perched on a steep hill: the Castle of Serravalle

Plonked on a hill since the 13th century by the Malaspina family, this castle offers a glimpse of the era when knights roamed the landscape. A church within, frescoes of decades past, and a view that lasts - if you can walk the long, steep staircase.

The Castle of Serravalle in Bosa, Sardinia, Italy, is a testament to the Malaspina family’s love for feudal fortresses. Built around the second half of the 13th century, it overlooks the town on the slope of Serravalle hill. The foundation of the castle was the hideaway of the ancient Malaspina family who ruled the town in the 13th century. Inside, the small church of Our Lady de Sos Regnos Altos serves as the palace chapel, decked with frescoes from the 14th century.
