The 18th-century limestone home of Rev. John Gerrard

Step inside the Hays-Gerrard House, where Baptist dreams took root in West Virginia.

Constructed around 1743, the Hays-Gerrard House in Gerrardstown, West Virginia, is a two-story, three bay wide limestone dwelling. It measures 16 feet by 27 feet and has a steeply pitched gable roof. The property was the site of the first Baptist church in the area and home to Rev. John Gerrard, the first Baptist minister west of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

After a restoration in the 1970s, the Hays-Gerrard House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, solidifying its status as a historically significant building. It is located within the Gerrardstown Historic District, which was listed in 1991.
