The haunting tale of Château de Bidache: Fire, battles, and intrigue for six

The Château de Bidache in Bidache, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France, was the seat of the sovereign principality of Bidache and has been classified as a monument historique. Reconstructed after being destroyed by fire in 1523, the castle underwent renovations in the 17th century, with Louis de Mihet, the king's engineer, overseeing the work. Three large, round towers in the northwest and south are evidence of the medieval castle that was demolished in 1523 by the troops of Charles Quint. The castle was empty when it was ravaged by fire on the night of February 22-23, 1796.
