The Great Arnsburg castle, also known as Burg Groß-Arnsberg in German, is a monument historique in the Moselle department of France, classified since November 1994. It is located in a narrow valley, created by the Zinsel, in the center of the Philippsbourg forest domain. The castle was built by Frédéric le Borgne, Duke of Souabe and Alsace, at the beginning of the 12th century. Originally, it was not built for the Hunebourg, landgraves of the Emperor Lothaire, but it later passed into their possession. The castle was built to protect the Duke’s residence in Haguenau and the old Bitche to Alsace route.
