The Cortijo del Fraile, located in southeast Níjar, Almería, within the Cabo de Gata-Níjar natural park, is a declared cultural heritage site with the type of ethnological site. The nearby towns are Los Albaricoques and Rodalquilar. Built in the 19th century, this site is known as 'cortijo del Fraile'. In 1836, it was confiscated by the state due to the desamortización laws. The events that took place near it on the 22nd of July, 1928, are known as 'crimen de Níjar'. Francisca Cañadas, the protagonist of the crimen de Níjar, lived near it all her life.
