Transformation of a medieval manor: restoring the fire-damaged Astley Castle

Astley Castle, a Grade II* listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument, is a 16th-century manor house in North Warwickshire, England. After a devastating fire in 1978, the National Trust took on the project in 2005 and held an architectural competition in 2007. The renovated castle, which combined modern elements within the (mostly) renaissance remains, reopened as a holiday let in 2012 and won the Royal Institute of British Architects Stirling Prize for architecture in 2013.
