The Perpetual Quill Pen: Our German Mate Holds Court in NYC's Bryant Park

Since 1932, our German Mate has kept New York City on its toes, chilling in Bryant Park like a modern-day Mozart. That's right, mate, I'm talking about the legendary wordsmith, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

There he is, our German Mate, the whole shebang - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, a bloke who's been standing as tall as Big Ben since 1932. But here's the rub, our mate isn't just any scribe, he's the 'king of ink'. To honor his genius, a sculptor named Karl Fischer chiseled our mate's statue back in 1917, and it was later acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Our mate strutted into the park, rocking it like he never left, atop a Swedish black granite pedestal, with a steely gaze locked onto the park. The dedication was on February 15, 1932, and in 1992, the Bryant Park Restoration Corporation gave our mate a new swanky outfit, so now he really does look like he just stepped out of a time machine.
