In a time long forgotten, there stood the Enchanted Banana Castle, Castillo del Mar, upon a craggy cliff overlooking the mighty and mystical Atlantic Ocean. Perched high, it towered above the verdant valley of Vallehermoso, the commercial heart of La Gomera. For more than a century, its halls echoed with laughter and magic as ships arrived daily to collect the precious cargo – bananas, lovingly washed, weighed, and sorted by enchanted hands before setting sail once more.
The castle stood firm against the raids of pirates, its cannons ready to cry out in alarm at the slightest hint of danger. Yet, the castle was no match for the passage of time and the changing tides. For, with the end of the dark reign of Franco, many Gomeros yearned for the lands of South America. And so, Castillo del Mar became a resting place, a point of departure for those seeking adventure. Today, the castle remains quiet and deserted, its stones weeping tears of salt as the Atlantic's gentle waves caress its weathered rocks.
