The Enchanted Sanctuary of Santo Domingo de Guzmán in La Laguna, Tenerife: A

Fly into the heart of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, on the spellbinding island of Tenerife, where the magical Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán resides. Beneath its hallowed halls lie the mystical tombstone of a notorious pirate, and a heavenly artifact, shrouded in silver gleams, keep their secrets.

This mesmerizing house of faith, steeped in stories from centuries past, originates from the late 1500s, when the Dominican friars gracefully settled upon this land and established a humble chapel dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. The construction of the current church began in 1527. The baptismal font from the Virgin of Los Remedios' church, where Saint José de Anchieta is said to have been baptized, now rests here. Anchieta, who is believed to have played a significant role in the founding of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, is but a memory of this place's past.

The main altar harbors a chapel consecrated to Our Lady of the Rosary, a sacred relic that is said to have been brought to the island as early as 1558 by the Dominican friar Pedro de Santa María Ulloa. The image is elegantly seated upon a 18th-century silver throne and is surrounded by frescoes and boundless wall paintings by Mariano de Cossío, portraying tales of religious victories and the Battle of Lepanto. Since 1986, this church has been cherished as a priceless cultural treasure on the Canary Islands.
