Creating Controversy: The Origin of Per Hasselberg's Grandfather Statue

Per Hasselberg, a Swedish-speaking artist, created the Grandfather statue in 1885. The initial bronze cast of the sculpture was prepared by Christian Eriksson in 1896 and now can be found at Kungliga bibliotekets västra gavel in Humlegården, Stockholm. Posthumously, another marble version was created and is housed at Göteborgs konstmuseum. The statue was the central subject of Hjalmar Söderberg's novella Vox populi (Folkets röst) in May 1897.
