The chapel of Mudejar art: Santa María de Arbas

The Church of Santa María de Aras, located in Mayorga, Valladolid, Spain, is among the finest examples of Mudejar art in Tierra de Campos. It is an architectural marvel built before the 15th century, with semicircular apse made of tapia and a square-based tower. Inside, visitors marvel at intricate details, such as cross-rib and pointed-rib vaults. The capilla de los Villagómez showcases artwork inspired by Sevillian, Granadian, and Baroque styles, including revered pieces like arches, lobulados, mixtilineos, shields, cartelas, and paños of lozenges.

Inscriptions dating back to 1422 can be found in this chapel. The church also includes sculptures of San Antón, San Roque, the Baroque Altar, and the Marana Altar. Although it underwent restoration in the past decade, the church is currently awaiting a complete restoration. Restored in 1931, the Church of Santa María de Arbas is considered a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) and designated as a Monumento Histórico-Artístico perteneciente al Tesoro Artístico Nacional, and now stands as a National Artistic Treasure.
