There's no dodging it: the monstrous, 38-foot-tall Dragon Gate, or Gateway for short, looms like a titanic dragon from a kid's cartoon. Crafted by the Taiwanese crew at Ting Hwa Architects, it was a friendly token from Portland's Chinese community to the city in 1986. It's the main entrance to Portland's Old Town Chinatown neighbourhood and, at 38 feet (12 meters), it's a whopper to lay eyes on. Made from materials such as bronze, marble, granite, wood, tile, and steel, it's adorned with no less than 78 dragons and 58 mythical characters. Construction of this colossal fella cost a cool $256,000, making it one of the largest, and undoubtedly coolest, dragon-themed landmarks in the United States. The Gateway stood untouched from 1986 to 2011, but what's next? Swing by to catch a glimpse!
