Teampull na Trionaid: A Medieval Monastery and Possible Early University

Teampull na Trionaid, also known as Trinity Temple, is a medieval monastery and seminary located in Isle of North Uist, Scotland. It was built sometime between the 12th and 13th centuries, allegedly by Beathag, the daughter of a Norse warlord named Somerled. Some say it’s the oldest university site in Scotland because of its use as a seminary. It was a key seat of learning within the Scottish Highlands during the Middle Ages and continued to feed the minds and spirits of religious scholars up until its destruction during the Scottish Reformation.
