VIP Time Machine: A Green Bay Home with Historic Wisconsin Roots

Imagine strolling through the hallowed halls of Green Bay, Wisconson, a place where a key player penned a piece of the state's history. Let's dive in!

Hazelwood ain't just another old abode in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It's a history hotspot that'll make you feel like a movie star. Planned and constructed by Morgan L. Martin, who happens to be the cousin to the extremely influential James Duane Doty, this stunning residence was built for his new bride, Elizabeth, in Fort Howard back in 1837. No need to brush up on Wisconsin's state constitution yet, this Martin was one of the masterminds behind Wisconsin's very own constitution, eventually joining the Union in 1848.

Crazy, right? This all went down under the same roof! Martin was also a prominent figure in the Michigan Territory's legislature, a congressional delegate, and even a Brown County judge. Impressive, wouldn't you say? Hazelwood, a Greek Revival-style home, designed by the renowned Joseph Jackson, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and the State Register of Historic Places in 1989. The Brown County Historical Society acquired this gem in 1989, transformed it into a museum, and now provides guided tours. So, swing by for a taste of Wisconsin's past – Hazelwood welcomes visitors.
