Resurrected: LV-57 Moved from Ship to Beer, 1891-2018

In 1891, the LV-57 guided American vessels on the Great Lakes for 33 years. In 2018, the LV-57, now a beer brewed by Sprecher, made a comeback.

Built in 1891, Toledo, Ohio, by Craig Shipbuilding, the LV-57 was a beacon on the Great Lakes, specifically Lake Michigan, for 33 years. In 1924, it was retired and found itself in Milwaukee, transformed into a clubhouse at South Shore Beach. Misfortune soon struck, leaving it condemned and dismantled, with its pieces buried somewhere on the shore. Then, in November 2018, Sprecher Brewery reborn the LV-57 with a beer named for it. As for the LV-57's remains, they continue to rest along the shore, roughly 600 feet south of South Shore Park.
