Soho House: The birthplace of the modern world

Soho House, nestled in Handsworth, boasts a rich heritage. Founded in 1789, this 18th-century manor was the residence of Matthew Boulton, a visionary of the Industrial Revolution, who transformed Soho Mill into the Soho Manufactory. Boulton, an integral member of the Lunar Society, also used this residence as the epicenter of expansion and innovation. All these efforts culminated in giving birth to the modern world.

Samuel Wyatt, a renowned architect, expanded and revamped Soho House in 1789, a process that continued with designs submitted by James Wyatt, Samuel's brother, in 1796. The mansion boasts a Grade II* listed status, while its gardens display sphinxes, restored using Boulton's original planting notes. Proclaimed a Heritage Site, Soho House is maintained by Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery and hosts exhibitions of local and community interest.
