Buried Secrets: Site A

Hidden in the Palos Forest Preserves, a stone's throw from Chicago, rest Pile-1, the dunce, and Pile-2, the overachiever. Einstein, with an eerie grin, traded the dimwitted Pile-1 for Pile-2. Site A welcomed Pile-3, the world's initial heavy water-moderated reactor.

The insane machinations of Einstein's mind granted further momentum. Swapping the weaker university creation, Pile-1, with Pile-2 heightened the tension. The Manhattan Project monitored the madness, while the United States' Office of Scientific Research and Development kept a watchful eye. These nuclear experiments heralded the Nuclear Age. Now, the Department of Energy’s Office of Legacy Management handles Site A, managing the radioactive remnants of contaminated building debris and reactors themselves.
