Ruins of Sant Jaume de Peà: A Hidden Church in the Solsonès

The church and nucleus of Sant Jaume de Peà, situated in the central-western part of the municipal territory of Navès, form part of the Inventory of Architectural Heritage of Navès. The route to the church starts from the C-26 road between Solsona and Berga, at kilometer 114.2. The road to Peà is asphalted and well-signposted until the 7.2 km mark. From there, the road is less accessible and it is recommended to drive a 4x4. At the 10.6 km mark, there is a crossroads in a serrat, take the right path that follows a slight downhill and crosses the Merlí torrent.

Sant Jaume de Peà is a Romanesque church oriented east-south-east with a round apse. The church measures 6x11.90 metres. The church’s roof is covered with a barrel vault over masonry. The church has a Gothic doorway with a contemporary monolithic bull’s eye above. Inside the church, above the masonry of the nave, there is a motley of trapezoidal stones with a bisel. The exterior walls of the church have been reinforced later with large blocks. These blocks are contemporary with the church’s Gothic doorway. The exterior of the apse had a collapsed restoration in the year 2015.
