Its history dates back to 1615, during the ownership of Anders Stensson Bille, a local lord, Riksråd, and sheriff of Helsingborg. The central estate area of Rosendal Castle is depicted moated in an engraving from the mid-18th century. Note that the castle is not shown as 'floating on water' in the engraving, but moated instead.
