Radziwiłł Palace: A Grand French-style Monument in Vilnius, A Center of Urban

The Radziwiłł Palace was constructed between 1635 and 1653. This Late Renaissance palace, featuring Manneristic decorations that reflect the Lithuanian Renaissance architecture, was envisioned by Janusz Radziwiłł as a grand structure modeled after French palaces. However, the palace fell into disrepair during the Muscovite invasion between 1655 and 1660. The northern wing, miraculously surviving until the 1980s, was later restored and repurposed to house a branch of the Lithuanian National Art Museum. Inside the museum, one can find Old Master paintings, primarily from artists such as Ludovico Lipparini, Giuseppe Rossi, Antonio Bellucci, and Carlo Dolci. The palace is still undergoing restoration, with plans to be completed by 2023, marking the 700th anniversary of the first mention of Vilnius in 1323.
