The L-shaped Prédio Abreu in Maputo

Located in the heart of Maputo, the Prédio Abreu is a modernist office building featuring three distinct facades.

Visitors to Maputo's Praça dos Trabalhadores can see the Prédio Abreu, a modernist office building designed by Pancho Guedes between 1953 and 1956. The seven-story building is shaped like an L, with one side facing the Avenida da Guerra Popular and the other facing the Rua Consiglieri Pedro.

The building features three completely different facades. The side facing Avenida da Guerra Popular features a wall relief with opaque and translucent elements. At the corner, between the two parts of the building, there is a large wall mosaic made of pebbles with traditional themes. The facade facing Rua Consiglieri Pedro features numerous vertical sunshade elements.

Today, the building houses offices for the state oil company Petromoc. It is registered in the Portuguese Heritage Information System (Sistema de Informação para o Património Arquitectónico) under number 31688.
