From Moving Trough to Confederate Notes: Stories of Pittsford Green Library

Join us as we uncover the unexpected journey and historic events that unfolded at the Pittsford Green Library in Vermont.

The watering trough, located in front of the Maclure (Walker Memorial) Library, traversed the Green and was involved in several car crashes. Today, it has found its way back to the Library, though in a different spot from its original placement (the center of Rte. 7). In 1913, the Library received a package containing Confederate currency from the U.S. Treasury, serving as historical relics. The Library waived fines on overdue books in 1918 due to a four-week closure caused by the Spanish flu epidemic. A dispute over the removal of trees in front of the Library arose in 1926.
