Hetty Pegler's Tump

Hetty Pegler’s Tump, also called Uley Long Barrow, is an intriguing blend of history and mystery. Named after its remains of a local farmer’s wife who died at the turn of the 17th century, the Celtic grave dates back approximately 5000 years. Despite its age, Hetty Pegler’s Tump stands at less than 4 meters tall, with a crescent-like structure of earth and stone. Underneath, a series of chambers and passageways lie, containing the remains of at least fifteen individuals. This Neolithic barrow is located in the Gloucestershire county, clearly signposted on the Crawley Hill side (B4066 road) between Uley and Nympsfield.
