Granite relic that holds a snippet of history

The runic stone, known as Bjälbostenen, stands outside Bjälbo church in Sweden. Originally a part of the foundation of the sacristy, it was later moved to its current location. Made of granite, the stone stands 320 cm tall, 50 cm wide, and 50 cm thick. The runic inscription on Bjälbostenen is unadorned and in the RAK style. Translated from the runes, the inscription reads: 'Käcke men raised this stone after Grep, his gildesister, Juddes son. Love carved these runes.' The text on Bjälbostenen is the oldest written evidence we have of medieval gills (executors).
