Gare de Nouvel-Avricourt: Twice a Border Station, Once Deutsch, Then French

Once a border station, the Gare de Nouvel-Avricourt has changed, and changed back again. In 1871, when the treaty of Frankfurt divided Alsace-Lorraine between France and Germany, the train station was named Gare de Deutsch-Avricourt. After the return of Alsace-Lorraine to France in 1919, the name changed back to Nouvel-Avricourt. However, the new name did not change its history or its role, which was to serve a border, in a part of the world that was always hotly contested. That time has passed and today it stands a monument to a historical period gone, but the train station still stands and now there are plans to restore it.
