Constructed from limestone between 1879 and 1881, the peculiar horseshoe-shaped guardian of Povo, Forte Roncogno, was erected to thwart Trento's advance from Valsugana. With its unique horseshoe shape and internal reservoir, it housed 12cm guns and food supplies. After World War I, the battery's guns were transferred to a cave on Monte Celva. Through the 20th century, restoration attempts strove to return the fortress to its original state, though these attempts were fragmented, occurring in 1989 and 2008.
