Fort de Buoux

The Fort de Buoux is a medieval fort located in the heart of the Massif du Luberon, in Vaucluse, France. The first traces of habitation on the site date back to prehistory. The fort was built on the site of an ancient oppidum in the 13th century. It includes several buildings, enclosed by fortifications from the 16th century: a guardhouse, a cistern, the primitive village of Buoux, a 16th-century church, the communal house of the medieval village, several rock houses, a three-story tower, a 16th-century fortified house, a drawbridge, and a gate. The site was used as a quarry by the locals, and it is classified as a historical monument since December 16, 1986.
