Decoding Fornela dos Mouros: A Puzzling Megalithic relic in Costa da Morte

In the untamed wilderness of Nande, Laxe, Costa da Morte, a unique megalithic artifact, Fornela dos Mouros, emerges. Its enigmatic past and miniature proportions defy usual classifications, fueling curiosity and the desire for further exploration.

Nestled in the rugged landscape of Costa da Morte, in the remote countryside of Nande, Laxe, Fornela dos Mouros, a distinctive megalithic structure, whispers tales of antiquity. Classified as a 'historic: archaeological site,' 'archaeological_site,' and 'tourism: attraction,' this relic puzzles historians due to its unconventional features and compact dimensions. Theorized to be a megalithic chest, an early precursor to the individual inhumation cists that emerged in Galicia during the Bronze Age, Fornela dos Mourosoriginated around 2500 to 2000 BC.

Its rectangular framework, erected by three vertical stones with a horizontal stone for a roof, bears resemblance to other dolmens in the area such as the Casota de Freáns in Vimianzo. The recent inscription of Fornela dos Mouros on the concession of Laxe's town hall serves as a testament to its significance and ongoing fascination. It is set to be part of the future Archeological Park of Megalithism of Costa da Mote.
