Tangled Navigational Knot: Reedy Island's Stubbornly Rotting Light Tower

Fancy a lighthouse that's been built, abandoned, renamed, and moved? Meet the chronically confused Reedy Island Range Rear Light.

Once upon a time, in 1904, our protagonist played a temporary role as a navigational helper, featuring a simple train headlight perched on a pole. The bosses, always craving something long-term, fancied a new kick, so they set their sights on establishing the Reedy Island Range Rear Light, part of a snazzy new shipping route. But, of course, things doesn't always go according to plan. The channel sorta swerved away from Reedy Island, and with it, lost its hook. They rebranded it the Baker Range, but botched the deed, leading to a name swap later on. Construction was an old-school cat-and-mouse game, with funding delays that'd make a jaded politician roll their eyes. The initial idea was to relocate an existing lighthouse (the Finns Point Range Light) to Reedy Island, but those plans met a dead-end. In the end, they built a new tower in 1908.
