Flemingska palatset: The palace with a storied past

Flemingska Palatset, also known as Flemings Palats, is a 17th-century building located in the Old Town (Gamla stan) in Stockholm. Built in the 1650s for Riksråd Erik Fleming, the exact architect is a subject of debate, with some sources attributing the design to Nicodemus Tessin d.ä, while others credit Jean de la Vallée. The building has undergone renovations in 1783 and 1863, and was rebuilt in 1863.

The building, made of bricks and standing three floors tall with an attic, boasts a distinctive plastered façade. The façade is yellow, with a rusticated bottom floor and a robust division with pilasters. The roof is copper and sloping, with two round chimneys facing Slottsbacken, as shown in the images provided.

In 19th century, the neighboring building at Skeppsbron 2 was built for the Royal Telegraph Office and later housed Televerket. The current interior of Flemingska Palatset preserves the trap and two rooms with high-class Gustavian furnishings from the 18th century. The property was bought by Fabege in 2006, and currently houses a co-working space called Helio Slottsbacken.
