Gustav III's Triumphant Statue on Skeppsbrogatan

Gustav III's statue is a sculpture of King Gustav III of Sweden, created by Johan Tobias Sergel. The statue was a gift from the citizens of Stockholm, and it was unveiled on January 24, 1808. The statue stands on Skeppsbrogatan in Stockholm and represents Gustav III in a triumphant march after the Russian War (1788-1790). The statue was cast in bronze by Captain Charles Apelquist and was inspired by the antique marble sculpture Apollo Belvedere. The statue stands on a high pedestal of red älvdalsporfyr from Älvdalens porfyrverk. From Norrbro, Gustav III was greeted by the city's burgers and magistrate at Norrtull on August 30, 1790.
