Escuelas Graduadas de Cartagena

Escuelas Graduadas de Cartagena were the first centers of education in Spain that divided students by age and level. They had classrooms specifically hygienized for this purpose. These centers opened in Cartagena, Region of Murcia, between the late 19th century and early 20th century. The building, located in the old quarter on Gisbert street, was inaugurated on December 9, 1903, and was declared a 'bien de interés cultural' since May 21, 2004. After a renovation in 1995, the school reopened as a center for social and cultural uses. The distribution of classes by age and level was new in Spain at the time. The municipal architect for the project was Tomás Rico Valarino.
