The Transformation and Proposed Museum of Hôtel Mezzara: An Unexpected Journey

Hôtel Mezzara, a Parisian building in the Art Nouveau style, was constructed by architect Hector Guimard in 1910-1911 for industrialist Paul Mezzara. Originally designed for the World Exposition of Modern Decorative Arts, which was delayed until 1925 due to World War I, the building was later sold to the Lacascade sisters, who transformed it into a private school. In 1956, the building was gifted to the French educational system and became an annex of the lycée d'État Jean-Zay. Rental by the state for a 50-year lease was proposed in 2021, and the building has been vacant for several years. The Musée Guimard, initially announced in 2025, is expected to open in 2027 or 2028. The museum, which will house artworks from private collections and French and American museums, promises to be a testament to the late Art Nouveau period and the life and work of Hector Guimard.
