Marmarico's Haunted Dance with Power

Marmarico's Haunted Dance with Power

Built in 1930s Italy, the Marmarico Hydroelectric Power Station cast Calabria in lights. But why did it abandon its rhythm?

Perched on the Stilaro river's right bank, the Marmarico Hydroelectric Power Station sang the tune of progress for Calabria. Erected from 1928 to 1938, this pride of Società Immobiliare Calabra (SIC) came with a hefty 12 million Italian lire price tag. However, a spooky anecdote, unfolding like a ghost story around the power station, led to an unfortunate incident. The question is, what went wrong?

In 1952, a Vertice 11 pozzone piezometrico entered the picture. But it was in 1973 when disaster struck. A landslide took a chunk out of a forced conduit, causing damage worth 20-40 million Italian lire. The Marmarico station was nationalized under Enel in 1974, relocating its workers and pulling the plug. Yet, the plot thickens. The abandoned Marmarico Hydroelectric Power Station is now under consideration to rejoin the dance, as part of a museum of hydraulic energy. With a proposed budget of 6-8 million euros, what secrets will it unveil from its past?
