Situated in Eslöv Municipality, Scania, Skarhult Castle was constructed in the 1560s by Danish riksråd Sten Rosensparre. However, its history can be traced back to at least the 14th century. The estate was sold in 1661 to Swedish count Pontus Fredrik De la Gardie. It was unofficially owned by Beata Elisabet von Königsmarck, wife of De la Gardie, from 1661 until her death in 1723. After her widowhood, Skarhult was inherited by count Erik Brahe, the grandson of her daughter. His son, Magnus Fredrik Brahe, sold Skarhult to Charles XIV John of Sweden in 1826.
