The Stone Sentinel of Arkadelphia's Square – Arkadelphia Confederate Monument

Jacked up by R.P. Phillips in 1911, this Stone Sentinel stands tall on the Clark County Courthouse grounds, a leftover from Arkadelphia's Civil War days.

The Arkadelphia Confederate Monument,Found right smack in the heart of the courthouse square, isn't your average bit of rock. Inspired by the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, this Stone Sentinel took form under the management of R.P. Phillips, a mastermind sculptor with an artistic touch. This Stone Sentinel, showcasing a Confederate Army soldier, got itself a place on the National Register of Historic Places way back in 1996. Made from Georgia marble, this Stone Sentinel has been a popular attraction of the courthouse square for over a century, standing as a testament to history.
