Sibling stone secrets: The unforgettable story of Tjarve and the Södermanlands

In the Botkyrka commune, within sight of its original location stands a stone known as Södermanlands runestone 288. This stone, dating back to the middle of the 10th century, has inscriptions older than many local buildings. The stone tells a tale of the four siblings - Sibbe, Jorun, Torgun, and Ingegärd - who are believed to be siblings, with their father Tjarve also prominently mentioned in the inscription. A sister stone, Södermanlands runestone 305, located in Uttran, is another silent witness standing more than 3,000 years apart from the first stone. However, Tjarve's story doesn't end there. Guðmod, believed to be either 'husband' or 'farmer', is inscribed next to Tjarve. Regardless, Tjarve has a caretaker in the afterlife, someone to remember the family by. These stones, steeped in centuries-old secrets, continue to intrigue researchers and visitors to this day.
