Castillo de Suances, also known as the Ceruti Castle, is a palace that mimics medieval military architecture. Built in 1904 by Florencio Ceruti y Castañeda during his tenure as mayor of Torrelavega (1901-1906), the castle once served as a popular summer destination for the Spanish nobility and bourgeoisie. The castle was deserted for a time due to disputes among its owners and the local government, but was eventually restored and reopened as a hotel. Today, it houses a modern restaurant, El Castillo de Los Locos, and has been recently renovated by MMIT Arquitectos, earning praise from critics including El Diario Montañés. However, it should be noted that the castle is not to be confused with the old Martin de la Arena Tower, which was demolished to make way for the Amita Hotel Boutique located at 3 Calle Bajada al Puerto.
