A fortified manor in the foothills of Taradell: Casal de Mont-rodon

Casal de Mont-rodon, situated on the north slope of Serrat de Mont-rodon, is an enclave of Tona within the territory of Taradell, near the river Gurri. It was a Domus or Casa Forta, subject to the orders of the senyors of the castle of Taradell at Mont-rodon. The Mont-rodon family is first documented in 1128, with its most famous inhabitant, Guillem de Mont-rodon, who served as Master of the Temple of Aragón, Catalonia, and Provence from 1214 to 1217.

He was the tutor of King Jaume I during his childhood at the castle of Montsó. The building persisted until the mid-15th century, when it was looted and burned by supporters of King Joan II. After this event, the Casal de Mont-rodon became uninhabited and fell into disrepair until the 20th century. Restoration work on the building began in 1981 by the Direcció General del Patrimoni and is currently being continued by the proprietor Ramon Costa, of Taradell.
