Standing at an impressive 71 inches, with a span of 38 inches and a depth of 25 inches, Kvinneakt is an abstract bronze sculpture that'd give groovy '70s wallpaper a run for its money. From around 500 submissions, she was one of just 11 sculptures selected to grace the Transit Mall. The other, feline figure was Kathleen Conchuratt McCullough's, neé Conchuratt, ‘Cat in Repose'. The financial district of Portland received funding from both Tri-Met (20%) and the United States Department of Transportation (80%). Kvinneakt was installed in 1977, featuring in the 'Expose Yourself to Art' poster in 1978, alongside then-Mayor-elect Bud Clark. Since 1973, she's been a permanent, controversial, yet unmoveable fixture of Portland. Portlanders often refer to her as 'notorious' and 'confrontational', but this eccentric sculpture is what makes Portland's art scene uniquely extraordinary.
