Oman: Land of Forts

För bläddring

Forts and fortresses can be found throughout Oman, on the coast, in the mountains and in the desert – in fact, in every region of the country. Some were built during a time when Portugal controlled Oman, others during the sultanate. Each fortress has its own history, which in turn makes up the history of the entire country. They rise above the ground like guards of time, bearing the stories of centuries on their stone walls. They are like incredible witnesses to antiquity, guarding the mysterious intersections of culture, trade and defense, forming a mosaic of the wealth of this beautiful country. The Nizwa Fortress (Nizwa Fortress) stands at the crossroads of time in the center of this magical story. Its stone towers and walls, reaching for the sky, seem unconquerable, and every stone, every fissure, carries the vibrations of past eras. Surrounded by endless desert, the Nakhl Fort (Nakhal Fort) stands on a hill, like an immovable castle amid golden sand dunes. Its dark walls housed the secrets of wars and trade, and from the battlements, panoramic views of the beauty of Oman could be seen. The Bahla Fort (Bahla Fort), a masterpiece of architecture, is awe-inspiring in its grandeur. This fortress, which has survived the test of time, was a stone witness to power and opulence, embodying the creative spirit of Omani builders. In the capital, Muscat, the magnificent Mirani Fort (Mirani Fort), looking out to the endless Arabian Sea, became a symbol of maritime adventures and defense. Its walls told stories of ancient battles, of great maritime fleets, of how they met seas and winds. All these fortresses, like wise guardians of the ages, speak of time, of honor, of wealth.
